Introduction to Traffic Engineering and Road Safety
Training aim
To provide delegates with an understanding of the fundamentals of Traffic Engineering and Road Safety. Overarching concepts will be presented, along with in-depth explanations and worked examples.
Learning objectives
Delegates will gain an appreciation of the fundamentals of road link design, and junction design. Following this, more complex junctions such as roundabouts and traffic signals will be explored. The concepts and design principles behind these will be detailed. An introduction to traffic assessment methodologies will follow, including discussion on development impacts and assessment of same. The concepts of urban demand management and road safety will also be included.

Trainer's profile
Clifford Killeen is the principal Road Safety Engineer in ILTP Consulting having undertaken over 300 Road Safety Audits in Ireland and the UK. His experience includes junction and link design, as well as extensive traffic analysis.
John Paul Fitzgerald is principal traffic modelling engineer at ILTP and has extensive experience in junction and link design, as well as significant experience in the field of traffic impact analysis.
